Bringing empty homes back into use in Leeds

Latch, Canopy and Gipsil – bringing empty homes back into use in Leeds from Leeds Empties on Vimeo.

This animation tells the story of how 3 Leeds social enterprises – Latch, Canopy and Gipsil – have between them brought back into use 46 long-term empty homes since 2012.

They have attracted over £2 million of Government funding into Leeds over that period, and on the back of that they have secured other funding and investment – meaning that over £4 million has been invested in bringing long-term empty homes back into use.

Grants from LCF’s Jimbos Fund allowed Latch to purchase and refurbish an empty property in LS9 and involve unemployed volunteers in the project. Volunteers gained experience of refurbishing a house, confidence, practical skills and work experience. The property is now home to a family with housing and support needs.
