Climate Action Leeds Community Microgrants Autumn 2023
6 November 2023
Climate Action Leeds is a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Climate Action Fund. The programme aims to shape a ‘zero carbon, nature friendly, socially just Leeds by the 2030s’ through community-led climate action and networks of interest.
In partnership with Together for Peace, we launched Climate Action Leeds Community Grants, offering both small and micro grants to Leeds Community Organisations to deliver neighbourhood-based climate action projects. Projects will explore and develop ways to reduce carbon and promote nature-friendly activity.
In the second round of Microgrants, almost £7,300 was awarded to 5 Community Organisations in Leeds.
The organisations that were awarded funding are:
-
-
-
- Friends of Farsley Rehoboth Burial Ground
- Friends of Horsforth Hall Park
- Harehills Action Team
- The Starting Point Centre
- Zion Community Garden
-
-
The funded activities include:
-
-
-
- Hosting a bespoke climate action and climate change awareness event, with panel discussion and Q&A session, accessible information, a quiz and a climate pledge area.
- Transforming an unused space to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs for the whole community to enjoy.
- Installing a water run off system that also doubles as a fully accessible footpath network, to combat climate change and erosion on a steep clay hillside.
-
-
These projects join those funded in the first round of the Climate Action Leeds Community Grants programme, which has so far awarded 16 grants totalling more than £50,000.
