Climate Action Leeds Community Small Grants January 2024

£42,500 has been invested in 10 Community Organisations through Climate Action Leeds Community Small Grants.

Climate Action Leeds is a five-year programme funded by The National Lottery Climate Action Fund. The programme aims to shape a ‘zero carbon, nature friendly, socially just Leeds by the 2030s’ through community-led climate action and networks of interest.

In partnership with Together for Peace, we launched Climate Action Leeds Community Grants, offering both small and micro grants to Leeds Community Organisations to deliver neighbourhood-based climate action projects. Projects will explore and develop ways to reduce carbon and promote nature-friendly activity.

The organisations that were awarded funding in the latest small grants round are:

• • • • Armley Action Team CIC
      • Connecting Crossgates
      • Guiseley Theatre Community Interest Company
      • Involve
      • Karma Dance (Mental Health & Trauma) CIC
      • Leeds DEC
      • Radio Rangoli CIC
      • ROADBLOCK CIC
      • Tangram Housing Co-operative
      • We are Halton

The funded activities include:

• • • • A ‘Climate Justice Heroes’ after school club, educating 8-11 year olds on carbon literacy, carbon footprinting and carbon reduction action.
      • Creating a community garden to improve biodiversity and support the health and wellbeing of local residents.

• • • • Providing a community fridge to increase food-sharing culture, enabling both local residents and food providers to donate surplus food and avoid waste.
      • Radio shows featuring interviews with climate change experts, focusing on protecting the planet by switching to greener and renewable resources.

So far, almost £100,000 has been invested through the Climate Action Leeds Community Grants programme, with 30 grants awarded.
