Exciting Projects Supported To Celebrate Queens Platinum Jubilee

11 April 2022

Leeds Community Foundation has announced 17 grants totalling over £140,000 to Community Organisations across Leeds, Bradford, and Wakefield from Arts Council England’s Let’s Create Jubilee Fund.

The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund will ensure that thousands of people from communities all across England will have the opportunity to take part in exciting creative events – all in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.

Made possible thanks to National Lottery players, the Let’s Create Jubilee Fund has been administered by UK Community Foundations on behalf of Arts Council England. The programme is designed to help voluntary and community organisations develop creative and cultural events to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.

Shahed Molvi, Head of Grants for Leeds Community Foundation and GiveBradford, said: “The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund will ensure that thousands of people from communities across our region will have the opportunity to take part in exciting creative events – all in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.”

“I’m really excited to see local organisations, community artists and communities coming together to create special moments to celebrate an important milestone in our history.“

Funded projects include The Portabello Community Forum: who will utilise this grant to bring young and older people together to explore stories of the Queen’s coronation and create an original piece of theatre with music which will be presented at a tea party on 26 June 2022.

Sarah Cutts, Centre Manager for The Portabello Community Forum, said:

“We are delighted to have received the funding from the Arts Council and for the opportunity to work with local artists.  We love to give our children and older members of our community the chance to get to know each other and work together creatively. We can’t wait to be part of the process and to see the end performance.”

This programme also funded Wakefield District City of Sanctuary who will work with Arthouse Wakefield to engage asylum seekers, refugees, and people of different faiths and ethnic backgrounds in creating their own songs and musical pieces using a variety of musical instruments from different cultures

Ali Bullivent Project Manager and Lead Artist, said: ‘We are delighted to be able to embark on this exciting musical journey with members of our Asylum Seeker, Refugee, and the local community.

“Celebrating the Jubilee through music seems a fitting tribute! Sharing musical styles and culture, and creating new songs, this is a wonderful way to bring communities together.”
