Funder Commitment on Climate Change
25 October 2023
Leeds Community Foundation have made a significant step in our commitment to tackling climate change by signing up to the Funder Commitment on Climate Change.
The Funder Commitment recognises that the growing climate emergency is a serious risk to the pursuit of charitable goals and that trusts and foundations have a responsibility to ensure they are managing and distributing resources in a way that acknowledges and responds to this threat.
Kate Hainsworth, (now former) CEO said: “As a Foundation, there is an opportunity, as well as a responsibility, to use our assets, including valued relationships with many of our donors, partners, and Community Organisations, to the benefit of the planet we all share, and of the local communities in Leeds and Bradford we deeply care about.
We are dedicated to addressing the urgent global challenge of climate change. This holistic framework empowers funders to step up and take meaningful action. Together, we are not only acknowledging our responsibility but also committing to a more sustainable and resilient future. Our commitment is a testament to our collective determination to tackle the causes and impacts of climate change, leaving a legacy of positive change for the next generation.”
In the spirit of the Commitment, the Foundation will be integrating a climate perspective into key aspects of our work. Having already assessed the current position on the six pillars of action in the Commitment, a plan is being formulated for the next steps.
