Our Supporters: Mills and Reeve

27 July 2020

Philip Way is a Partner at Mills and Reeve and also a member of Leeds Community Foundation. Here, he discusses what he loves about the city of Leeds and why he is involved in the Foundation.

What is your favourite thing about Leeds, and what is Leeds best kept secret?

My Favourite things about Leeds are the diversity of cultural, sporting, social, business and retail opportunities available within a compact city footprint.
Leeds’s best kept secret is the Specialist Gardens at Roundhay Park – four of them were medal winners at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. They were designed and built by highly accomplished Leeds horticulturalists who are as innovative as they are modest.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt in business?

Work diligently with integrity and the utmost respect for clients and colleagues and your business will grow.

What single thing do you think could help the city? And what social/community issues are important to you?

Transport: once the pandemic is behind us, the access to and reach of flights to and from the airport must be addressed.

Opportunity for all the young of the city. The work that Opera North undertakes with carefully selected primary schools is inspirational.

What inspired you to support Leeds Community Foundation?

My late brother was born blind and with severe learning difficulties. His life was greatly enhanced by the generous support of several charities. I have a heartfelt connection with the objectives of a wide range of the charities which the Leeds Community Foundation benefits across the city.
