Our Stories: Meet Colin

“I’ve been coming to Purple Patch Arts for a long time. I’ve made lots of friends here. I enjoy everything we do. I like that it’s creative. I like drawing. I’ve drawn a boat on a river going to some treasure. It’s a pot of gold. And I’ve drawn flowers and a colourful dog.
I like Leeds United and Leeds Rhinos too. Me and Ella watch them play on TV. Me and Ella got engaged on Valentine’s Day. We’re getting married. We’ll be together now forever.
When I was 6 years old I was in an accident. That’s how I got my scar. I’m glad that I survived it. Now I’ve got my own bungalow and my own car. I’ll learn to drive soon. Then I can pick up Ella and take her wherever she wants to go.”
Purple Patch Arts supports learning-disabled people to thrive and to be heard. They create environments where everyone is empowered to express themselves, and to engage with, and understand, themselves, other people and the world around them. They’ve had various grants from Leeds Community Foundation, including a Leeds Digital Inclusion Fund grant to support their lifelong learning programme.
