Our Stories:
Meet Edwina

“My brother passed away a couple of years ago. He left two dependent children and no will. They were in care and below the legal age of 18. My sister and I didn’t know anything at the time, or what to do. I saw a flyer for the Care Cafe and I went along. I was given advice about what to do in terms of sorting out my brother’s finances and which solicitors to go to.
I started going to the cafe for the legal side but actually, it was a whole lot more for me. It’s a great setting to talk about how you’re feeling. Everyone there has experienced the same situation. I found out about the bereavement process, what happens to people. It came at exactly the right time for me. Since my brother, I’ve known four more people passing away. I’m still going through the grieving process with them. That kind of support is invaluable. It’s cathartic for me.
The support we got through Coping with Bereavement Project and the Care Cafe really helped us. The whole thing has been a wake-up call for us, nobody really tells you about these things. But I’ve since made a will so that my children don’t have to go through the hardship I’ve had to endure.”
