Our Stories: Meet Ella

12 November 2025

Ella and Jessica from Purple Patch Arts“I started coming to Purple Patch Arts in September 2019. I’ve been coming here for 6 years. I’m also part of the Purple Patch research group. And I’m on the Purple Patch Steering Group. So I help make decisions about what we do.

I come to the Lifelong Learning sessions every week. It’s a great way to make friends and I like to join in with the activities. I don’t really have a favourite activity. I like to do all of it. This year our theme is celebration. Today we’re talking about celebrating everyday things.

I like reading. I’m reading Escape from the Isle of the Lost. It’s a Descendents novel. It’s a fantasy book. That’s my favourite.”

Purple Patch Arts supports learning-disabled people to thrive and to be heard. They create environments where everyone is empowered to express themselves, and to engage with, and understand, themselves, other people and the world around them. They’ve had various grants from Leeds Community Foundation, including a Leeds Digital Inclusion Fund grant to support their lifelong learning programme.
