Our Stories:
Meet Faye

6 November 2024

“I started as a trustee, but more recently I have been volunteering lots of my time as a youth worker, helping on sessions. I throw myself into the sports. I feel like it’s a bit of an ice breaker, an easy way to start to build relationships with young people. And the lads find it hilarious that a woman is on the football pitch. I will happily take them on!

At first, I was only attending because my two little ones come. I’ve got three young children – 12, 11 and 2. I live on the estate. I live and breathe the estate. I’ve seen the struggles that young people can go through first-hand. I think it’s definitely beneficial that they have the support from Reestablish, because sometimes there’s a massive lack of that in this estate. Jo was my youth worker, and I can see how much that impacted my life and has got me to where I am now.

Reestablish is really close to my heart. I’m actually a qualified vehicle maintenance technician. I like having that ability for people to come to me for advice over their cars, but I feel like there’s much more to youth work. There’s a much bigger difference than just fixing a tyre. So, it’s not a chore. It’s not even really a job. I feel like it’s a passion from within.”

Reestablish empower young people to discover and actively pursue opportunities to develop their potential and positively improve their lives, whilst enhancing the lives of others. They run drop-in’s, mentoring and community support, group work, trips, holiday camps and expeditions. Leeds Community Foundation funding has supported a range of their activities, including holiday clubs and work on the organisation’s strategic development.
