Our Stories:
Meet Hannah

“I worked at The Old Fire Station last year on the Healthy Holidays Programme. I was coordinating and helping to run the activities and looking after the kids. Then a space became available, so they asked if I wanted to come back and now I’m back here permanently.
It’s nice to see the kids come in and see them all getting on as well. Some of them struggle with communicating and making friends. Especially because of COVID over the past few years. We have a little girl who wouldn’t come on her own and came with her brother who always looks after her. She sometimes comes now and we manage to look after her and tell her she’s safe.
It’s a great place to be. Even the staff are lovely and welcoming. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like you’re at work because you can just come in and have a laugh with everyone. We have lots of different people come and there’s always lots going on in the building. It’s just so buzzing and it really does bring the community together.”
The Old Fire Station is a multipurpose community hub, providing a base for six local charities, along with rooms available to hire, a cookery school and a café for all of the community to enjoy. They’ve received a range of funding from Leeds Community Foundation, including grants for children’s holiday activities and the organisation’s strategic development.
