Our Stories: Meet Lesley

5 February 2025

“I wanted to get involved with BHI. I was volunteering here, and when they started the radio, I knew I wanted to be a part of it! I’m doing a Masters in journalism and production, so we’re learning about broadcast and TV. It’s a lot of work and I’m really enjoying it. I’m learning different skills which is fantastic, and it’s really pushing me and challenging me.

I am the DJ and Presenter of the BHI Show with Lesley and Friends. We’re on the radio here every Thursday from 2 ‘til 4. I’ll invite a guest, and we’ll discuss that week’s topic. It’s all about health and wealth, so we might talk about the menopause, for example. I’ll also introduce BHI and let people know what we’re doing, and what they can get involved with like the walking group, or boot camp. Over Christmas, BHI had a scheme for people who didn’t have enough money to buy food or needed help with their gas or electric. We were able to use the radio to get the information out there, so people could get that support.

I like speaking to people and finding out their stories. I’m quite nosy, so I want to find out as much as I can about people. And then I want to signpost people to different places where they can go for support. I like doing that.”
