Our Stories:
Meet Trevor

1 June 2022

“I’ve gradually lost my technical ability. I started life as an engineer and did my national service.  I then felt a calling to the ministry of the church, so I became a clergyman. When computers came in I said I wasn’t having anything to do with them.

I’ve always been a keen photographer and I eventually bought a desktop computer. I had thousands of slides which I wanted to transfer, so I could sort them out and use them for talks, etc. I never got round to doing that. My wife was going to help me, but unfortunately she got dementia and eventually taken into full-time care.

It was only in 2018 when I bought this laptop that I had access to my photos, I still haven’t managed to transfer everything. That’s why the sessions on photos have been so great.  I could get my photos onto the computer but had no clue about how to send them via email. I’ve been practicing sending a photo of my wife, in her younger years, to my daughter. I’m 90 now so I get very confused with information; I’ve almost had to start from scratch, but these sessions have really helped me.”

Friends of Silsden Town Hall benefit the residents of Silsden in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare. With support from GiveBradford’s Keighley Community Health Grants they taught Older people how to use tablets for daily life, with a specific focus video calling in order to make GP appointments more accessible.
