Baywater Healthcare is an independent specialist provider of healthcare services to patients with long-term conditions, delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions with care closer to home.
They recently became Members of Leeds Community Foundation, and we caught up with CEO, Adam Sullivan, about what inspired them to do so.

How have you been involved with Leeds Community Foundation?
Baywater Healthcare was introduced to Leeds Community Foundation through our engagement with another Community Foundation. We were made aware of the Community Foundation and the important work that it does for local communities. As a healthcare company with patient services in the area, we were keen to expand our support into Yorkshire and Humberside, and Leeds was a natural choice for us. We are new to Membership and are really excited to be working with the Foundation. We believe the Community Foundation’s values align with ours, and we are thrilled to join the club.
How important is social value to you?
Social value is very important to us at Baywater Healthcare. We believe in supporting those in the communities we serve and where our employees live, it creates a strong alignment between our business operations and our colleagues.
Our social value commitment addresses immediate needs and supports long-term sustainability and shared growth. We encourage inclusivity and a culture of strong morals, which leads to an environment where the wellbeing of all is held.
At Baywater Healthcare, social value is embedded as part of our culture and is something all our employees are invested in and actively contribute to. We have our very own Sustainability Champions Group, and our managers are encouraged to believe in and demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility, setting an example for our entire company.
What community issues are important to you?
As a healthcare provider delivering services on behalf of the NHS, we prioritise community issues that directly impact public health and wellbeing. We are keen to support improved access to healthcare services, especially for underserved populations. This includes addressing barriers to healthcare, such as geographic limitations, affordability, health inequality and availability of services. We are keen to support health education and addressing social determinants of health such as poverty, housing instability, food insecurity and education levels, recognising that these determinants significantly impact health outcomes.
Given the growing awareness of mental health issues, we are keen to focus on initiatives to reduce stigma, increase access to mental health services and promote mental wellness within communities. We are also keen to support initiatives that address environmental factors impacting health, such as access to leisure facilities, air and water quality.
Has the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis altered the way you view investment into communities?
The pandemic and cost-of-living crisis prompted us to reassess our approach to investing in communities. There is now a heightened awareness of the challenges faced by localities, including economic disparities, healthcare accessibility and social welfare. At Baywater Healthcare, we recognise the importance of community investment beyond our standard corporate social responsibility. We are focusing on initiatives that directly address these challenges, such as funding programs for affordable housing, healthcare access, job creation and education. By supporting local Community Foundations, we are able to reach these funding programmes to provide support to local communities where it is needed.
What makes Leeds a unique city?
Leeds stands out as a unique city due to its dynamic blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy. It’s a cultural hub renowned for its diverse arts scene, bustling markets, and thriving music and nightlife. Leeds boasts an impressive array of green spaces, including parks and gardens, offering a tranquil balance amidst its bustling city life. The city’s rich heritage, coupled with its innovation and inclusivity, contributes to its distinct character and appeal. We also recognise that, like many Northern cities, it has an array of social challenges that, collectively, we can create awareness of and come together to build sustainable solutions.
Have you got any advice for organisations that are looking to support Leeds Community Foundation?
Our advice is to do it. We struggled to find the right outlet to engage and support the local community for many years. The Community Foundation creates the perfect link between some amazing charities and the local businesses. The Foundation understands what a successful charitable cause looks like and whether it is responsible and sustainable, which gives us the confidence that the funds donated will be used wisely. We were inspired to learn about Leeds Community Foundation’s incredible work and the difference it makes to local communities and people’s lives. By supporting Leeds Community Foundation, you have the opportunity to support some amazing community organisations and influence positive change in the area.
Leeds Community Foundation creates opportunities for all by working with partners to make a positive impact within communities across Leeds and Bradford. We do this by generating and investing philanthropic giving as well as maximising statutory funding to deliver grants and provide trusted expertise into Community Organisations, benefitting thousands of local people.
