Corecom Consulting
23 March 2023
Corecom Consulting is a multi-award winning contract and permanent IT recruitment company. They are passionate about their candidates and passionate about social change.
We spoke to Managing Director, Jonathan Sanderson, about being a Leeds Community Foundation Member and how important it is for Corecom Consulting to have a positive impact for the people they work with, and the causes they support.
How have you been involved with Leeds Community Foundation?
Corecom Consulting is a member of the Leeds Community Foundation, supporting the charity with philanthropic activities across the region since 2019. As a company, we are proud to be a Community Foundation member, providing the support needed for a positive impact to be made within communities across Leeds and Bradford and benefitting thousands of local people.
How important is social value to you?
Social value is of great importance to me as a business leader at Corecom Consulting. It forms part of our day to day working practises as an IT recruitment company based in the heart of the City:
Social – we are committed to volunteering in the community, providing continued support to Moonlight Trust; a humanitarian charity based in Dewsbury providing much needed aid and educational projects for refugees across the globe. We host community events, support charity fundraisers and we have implemented flexible working policies for employees.
Economic – we continue to be committed to providing work placements, supporting apprenticeships, employing local people, working with local suppliers, providing career advice at local universities and colleges and providing mentorship to young people.
Environmental – we are committed to reducing carbon emissions and using sustainable products and materials. Our Leeds HQ is located at the Yorkshire Hub which is a Grade A solar farm.
What community issues are important to you?
We believe each and every one of us has the right to reach our full potential and achieve our aspirations. As a recruitment company operating in what has traditionally been a closed and diverse-weak sector, we see our role as turning the tide. And it is this ambition that lies behind all of our partnership work. We work with our community partners to:
-
-
-
- Enable, empower and improve life chances through collaboration and support
- Promote goodwill and understanding whilst challenging misperceptions
- Realign the reputation of the tech and wider STEM sector as that of one that is open, supportive, diverse and progressive
-
-
We believe that true fulfilment in the workplace and personal life comes from embedding oneself in our communities and, in embracing partnerships that can truly make an impact, we can enhance the wellbeing and skills of both our staff and our partners and the wonderful people they work with.
Has the pandemic altered the way you view investment into communities?
As a business, we have tried to make more of an impact in areas that align to our values. At Corecom Consulting there has always been a culture of giving back and making a special effort to offer support in the community. This year, we are giving £25,000 across the company to our employees, to help with the increases in the cost of living.
Our employees’ wellbeing is very important to us, and we hope that this measure will help alleviate the pressures of this unprecedented increase in the cost of living. Obviously, the cost of living crisis is on our employees’ minds at the moment, and they don’t lose that thought when they come into work. We as a company thought through what more we could do to support and help our employees.
We plan to offer even more support to our charity partners next year, including Candlelighters, Moonlight Trust and Operation Christmas Child, as well as Leeds Community Foundation.
What makes Leeds a unique city?
Leeds has become an established hub for small innovative companies with a global reach, as well as bigger players such as Channel 4. We have seen the City gain a positive reputation for developing the skilled employees and financial strength required to fund start-ups and innovation in financial and legal services, healthcare and manufacturing and retail. This reputation has led to major employers such as the Financial Conduct Authority and the Bank of England opening offices here.
Leeds has demonstrated strong employment performance in contrast to our regional rivals, with its record on job creation set to increase by the fourth quarter of 2023.
In addition, Leeds has a very diverse cultural scene, it’s a vast university city, average house prices are over 60% lower than London and it really is the cutting edge of innovative sustainable living. The City is leading the way in harnessing sustainable technologies in order to generate new communities, promote ethical and environmental building practices and reducing the environmental impact of commuting.
Have you got any advice for organisations that are looking to support Leeds Community Foundation?
I have seen Leeds Community Foundation fund and support some life-changing projects in the City, just some of which include tackling:
-
-
- loneliness and social isolation in older LGBT+ people
- mental health inequalities within minority ethnic groups
-
-
-
- social isolation for men in Leeds
- improving the health and wellbeing of people in communities identified as the most deprived in Leeds
-
The charity is creating positive change and building a better future for the City and we, together, should all contribute what we can to creating a City of opportunity.
Leeds Community Foundation creates opportunities for all by working with partners to make a positive impact within communities across Leeds and Bradford. We do this by generating and investing philanthropic giving as well as maximising statutory funding to deliver grants and provide trusted expertise into Community Organisations, benefitting thousands of local people.
